Turning the Turf

This is a portrait of my grandfather, turning turf blocks in a peat bog in Co. Kerry, Ireland. The family over there work the land and this bog is part of a farm near Caherciveen. Peat is cut into blocks and dried for use as fuel. Oil pastel on black card.
